I just found out five minutes ago that today is National Burger Day! How the hell did I not know about this? Honestly, to me, every day is National Burger Day, but I figured in honor of today, I would make a list of my top 10 favorite cheeseburgers in the city. This was a very (very) difficult list to make…

#10 Bison Burger from Bareburger

Bareburger specializes in organic and all-natural ingredients. Whenever I eat there, I always feel like I am being healthy. Maybe not? I don’t know. But their burger menu is awesome giving the diner the ability to customize their burger experience by selecting the bread, veggies, and even the meat. So, when I saw bison on the menu, I knew I had to try it out! Bison is a healthier alternative to beef with a very lean taste.  (Honestly, just put enough mayo on it, you’ll never know the difference).

One of my favorite types of burgers is the patty melt: a burger patty topped with cheese and grilled onions served on rye toast instead of a bun. Grand Lux Café adds their “secret sauce” (mayo and mustard) to their patty melt for that extra kick and taste.

Petey’s is an Astoria staple and I bet anyone who has ever been drunk in Astoria has ordered Petey’s once or twice for that amazing hangover cure. I even get it when I’m not drunk or hungover! Also, they have the best milkshakes!

Nothing goes together better than bacon and blue cheese. And Boulton & Watt has this combination down to a science. The burger is available on their lunch, dinner, and brunch menu.

#7 Bacon & Bleu from Bolton & Watt

This was by far the most expensive burger on the list – but most definitely worth it! The Smith has a great atmosphere and the food is equally as pleasing. The burger deluxe is piled high with bacon, cheese, lettuce and tomato with a fresh dill pickle on the side.

#6 Burger Deluxe from The Smith

I had never had a lamb burger before I went to Westville. In fact, I didn’t even know you could make a burger with lamb. But, I was in an experimenting mood and I ordered the lamb burger topped with fresh tzatziki dressing and I found that I absolutely love it! It was a great change from a classic beef burger and I can’t wait to order it again.

Sometimes, you don’t need all the bells and whistles. Sometimes you just need a really great tasting burger – and that’s exactly what Sweet Afton gives us! Get it with bacon or without – and make sure you get an order of their amazing fried cheese curds!

#4 Sweet Afton Burger from Sweet Afton

Goat cheese is by far my favorite cheese. So when you put it on a burger and top it off with some extra crispy bacon? I’m in heaven! This little spot is a hidden gem on the Upper East Side that must be explored.

#3 Goat Cheese Burger from Ottomanelli Brothers

Did you think Shake Shack wouldn’t be on this list?! Shake Shack seems to be taking the world over by storm with their tasty burgers and delicious cheese fries. Even though there are about 4 locations near me, I rarely make it over to New York’s most famous burger spot, but hopefully now that the weather is nice, I will once again sit outside at Madison Square Park with my two double shack burgers, large cheese fry and diet coke.

#2 Shack Burger from Shake Shack

Do. You. Even. Want. To. Talk. About. It. When I first walked into The Ainsworth for a relaxing Tuesday night dinner, I was not expecting to fall in love with the best, most creative, and biggest burger I have ever come across. The burger is topped with fried macaroni and cheese AND THEN topped with more mac & cheese “as a garnish” – beats the hell out of parsley. This is seriously the best cheeseburger I have ever had in my life, mostly because it combines two of my favorite meals ever, and it’s only $14. This is a must-eat for all you NY’ers!
