There is nothing that makes me happier than alliteration – especially if that alliteration encompasses two of my favorite things: meatballs and martinis.
Michael’s Meatballs & Martinis is located in the beautiful [sic] Staten Island and has one of the greatest menus I have ever seen. From calamari and eggplant rollatini to 10 different types of meatballs, this place gives The Meatball Shop a run for its money.
When I went there for dinner this past Friday night, I was lucky enough to sit outside on the patio to enjoy the beautiful weather we are having lately. When it came time to order our drinks, it would have been rude for me not to get a martini. With over 20 different types of martinis on the menu, it was extremely hard to choose, so I just went with my favorite – a Classic Dirty Martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. And it was goooooood.
For an appetizer, we decided to split two different kinds of meatballs: the blue cheese and caramelized onion and the stuffed meatballs. I really loved both of
them, but my heart belongs to the meatballs covered with grilled onions and smothered in a melted blue cheese sauce. Even now, a few days later, I am craving them.
For an entrée, I decided that I should at least be a little healthy, so I got the Chicken Carciofini – two pieces of grilled chicken topped with sundried tomatoes and artichoke hearts in a lemon butter sauce served with mashed potatoes and asparagus! I did enjoy my meal, although I was kind of wishing I went with the fried alfredo bites or the Italian egg rolls.
I thoroughly liked Michaels Meatballs & Martinis and I highly recommend it to anyone (even though yes, it’s on Staten Island…) I would suggest to order exactly what the name suggests though. Order a few different kinds of meatballs and share some of the appetizers amongst your group. The martinis are good, but after one, I just went with red wine. I find it hard to eat a heavy meal while drinking something sweet. But, all in all, it was a great experience and I’m happy I got the chance to try it out!
