DAY 29: PORTOBELLO MUSHROOM BURGER
July 31, 2014
THE HUNGER JAMES OFFICIAL RATING:
I apparently love BareBurger.
What I love most about it, aside from its convenience and location is that they have a wonderful vegetarian menu – something you may not be able to guess from the restaurant name.
A few days ago I wrote about my experience there and how I ordered the Quinoa burger. Wanting to try something different (and to not be boring) I got a burger with a Portobello mushroom as my “meat patty.”
I have always been a fan of mushrooms, but never had one this big. The mushroom was so big that it couldn’t even fit on the roll. I topped the burger with provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato, and a spicy mayonnaise.
My first few bites of the sandwich were pretty good. The mushroom was cooked well and had great flavor. But, as the night went on and I kept eating, I was quickly becoming over the taste of the Portobello.
Don’t get me wrong – it was good. But it is one of those flavors (and consistencies) that really started to not taste good. Usually taking me anywhere between 2 and 4 minutes to eat a full meal, I munched and picked at this sandwich for close to thirty minutes. Thank God there were onion rings.
